Founded in 2004, CIMC Modular Building Solutions (also known as Guangdong Cimc Building Construction Co., Ltd.) is the modular building business unit of CIMC Group (world's largest container manufacturer). CIMC MBS has built up an extensive portfolio of hotel, student housing, and apartment and workforce accommodation around the world since 2010. With four manufacturing facilities and five regional branches over UK, Australia, and the U.S., CIMC MBS has been the leading modular building provider in the world. CIMC MBS has designed the V system, T system and Flat Pack for its steel structure modular buildings. All of the factories have substantial experience in producing modular buildings and are equipped for fabrication, quality assurance and HSE. Today, CIMC’s factory is able to deliver over 8,000 modules annually.
The parent organization, CIMC Group, is a world leading supplier of logistics and energy equipment, supplying containers, vehicles, energy, chemical and food equipment, offshore, logistics services, airport facilities, and more. CIMC sold a million TEU (twenty foot equivalent) of containers in 2020, has a global market share of 42%. CIMC’s largest shareholder is state-owned conglomerate China Merchants Group, and other state-owned entities, such as CITIC and Cosco, give the government a controlling stake of more than 57%. In 2020, it was reported that CIMC "abruptly liquidated its UK subsidiaries leaving large unpaid bills," as a result to losses/slowdowns in the hotel market due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Most recently, CIMC delivered on projects in the U.S. (CitizenM Microhotel in Downtown Los Angeles opened in 2021).
