The Kresge Foundation is a philanthropic private foundation established by Sebastian S. Kresge (founder of Kmart Corporation) in 1924 to promote human progress. Headquartered in Troy, Michigan, The Kresge Foundation is active in 230 cities nationally. With an endowment of over $3.6 billion (2019), the Foundation gives grants and invests in arts and culture, education, environment, health, human services, and community development efforts.
Recently, The Kresge Foundation led efforts to establish social impact measures for low-income communities under the Opportunity Zone Funds community investment incentive created by the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Learn more about their American Cities initiatives here.
