LADBS (LA Building & Safety)
Los Angeles Department of Building & Safety (LADBS)

The Los Angeles Department of Building & Safety (LADBS) advises, guides, and assists the building community in achieving compliance with the Building, Zoning, Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, Disabled Access, Energy, and Green codes and local and State law.
LADBS issues building permits in coordination with several other departments and agencies, depending on the project scope, including City Planning, Fire, Public Works, Transportation, HCIDLA, Housing Authority, DWP, Cultural Affairs, Health, AQMD, LAUSD, Oil and Gas, Cal OSHA, and Dept of Sanitation. LADBS permits 15-20k housing units per year in the City of Los Angeles.
As building activity ramps up, LADBS is designing and adopting new technology and processes, including the parallel design-permitting process, the ePlanLA portal for online building applications and review, and the BuildLA website that centralizes development services across several City departments.
