Superfund Sites

Superfund sites are polluted locations in the United States requiring a long-term response to clean up hazardous material contaminations. They were designated under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) of 1980.The federal Superfund program, administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is designed to investigate and clean up sites contaminated with hazardous substances.

There are 28 active NPL superfund sites in Los Angeles County, CA. These sites, located near job centers, present opportunities for future housing developments if fully cleaned and remediated.
