Lessons in Policy from “Missing Middle Housing Challenge” in Arlington, VA

Richard Tucker
Housing Arlington Coordinator at Arlington County

To locally address the challenge of a shortfall in housing supply in Arlington, Virginia, the County Board launched Housing Arlington in March 2019. The study examines how new housing types and forms could be introduced in Arlington that increase and diversify the County’s housing supply. Easing restrictions of the types of housing permitted in Arlington can increase housing supply and provide choices for housing that are more affordable than the options that are currently available.
