Addressing NIMBYism Inside City Government

SCAG is the nation’s largest metropolitan planning organization, representing six counties, 191 cities, and more than 19 million residents – and is tasked with coordinating successful implementation of the state’s housing goals. But many local municipalities do not agree that more housing is needed, at least within their boundaries. Given the scope of the housing crisis in the region, and the negative impacts the lack of housing has on underserved communities, many wonder why city governments oppose new essential housing development in their communities.
