Strategic Actions for a Just Economy (or “SAJE”) is a force for economic justice in the South Los Angeles community (and beyond), focusing on tenant rights, healthy housing, and equitable development. SAJE’s long-term focus is to build a broad-based approach to urban land reform in Los Angeles and to establish a right to the city for all people. This incorporates efforts to eliminate slum housing, reform redevelopment, forestall displacement, increase tenants’ rights, and establish people’s control over land.

Founded in 1996, SAJE’s non-profit work includes community plan overlay zones for more equitable zoning, tenant protection services, and negotiating Community Benefit Agreements with developers. SAJE has worked with 1,600 tenants, connected 2,500 local workers to jobs, and have helped secure 400 units of affordable housing in South Los Angeles.
