Trust for Public Lands

Trust for Public Lands

Founded in 1972, Trust for Public Lands (“TPL”) is a national nonprofit on a mission to create parks and protect land for people, ensuring healthy, livable communities for generations to come. With over 30-offices nationwide, TPL helps communities prioritize parks – from the early community development stages of prioritizing land for parks and conservation, charting a course to protect and sustain it, crafting measures and pass legislation to secure funding, and helping partners acquire and safeguard land for the public.

Highlighted Project: Green Alleys

TPL partnered with the City of Los Angeles’ Community Redevelopment Agency, Bureau of Sanitation, the University of Southern California‘s Center for Sustainable Cities, Jefferson High School and others, to re-purposing several neighborhood alleys into vibrant, outdoor areas in the South Los Angeles area. As discovered during the pilot project, turning alleyways into walkable streets opens up an entirely new frontier of neighborhood development – including new backyard housing possibilities, helping organically revitalize neighborhoods from within.
